Weekend Get-Away -- Jerome/Flagstaff, AZ -- September, 2008

September 20 - 21, 2008

Touring is getting to be a slight bit easier - especially after nearly 3000 miles last month, but now it's time to do a little exploring closer to home.  A perfect weekend get-away, according to the fellas on the forum, is to head north toward Sedona, and the fun little artsy community of Jerome, AZ
I don't exactly recall the route we took, but I'm fairly certain it was via Payson and points west.
A few photos from this ride...

Airport Road - The Sedona airport sits on a high mesa above the community.

From here, you have a view of Sedona, AZ and points north.

From here, our next stop would be the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.  There's a volcano in Arizona?  Yep!

There were a few areas of lava flow; this was one of them mostly accessible by foot.  You could hike the crater to see the interior of the volcano...

900-odd years ago it happened.

For a few days, having the extra bag on the bike helped a lot.

An Eagles song about this place..."Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona"

A fun get-away, but still warm in mid September.
