April 26, 2018 - Day 1
First day - short run...280-ish miles to Las Cruces, NM. Eat, sleep, and repeat will be the plan over the next three more days.
Big day tomorrow - 2/3'rds across Texas, but stopping a bit short of the Metroplex (or, as the locals call it, the MetroMess). I'm not anxious to deal with "Friday afternoon get out of town!" traffic, so an overnight stop at the outskirts of the region hopefully makes travel a little easier.
I was given some information about an alternate way around that mess from a motorcycle forum that I'm on. I'll make that final call on which way to go as we ride on Friday.
This trip is real now....
...and a couple of photos. The first ~260 miles? They really don't change...all the way to Las Cruces; same road, same things.

This was supposed to be published this morning, but I screwed up a setting. Ugh.
There's no time to dilly-dally, gotta go!
I'll leave you with an earworm...a what??

I had this in my head for a bit yesterday - and may again have it today, too!
😄

A bit harder ride than I expected, but we're here. I've got photos to add for yesterday and today...
So, I'm having to force myself to shoot pictures, since I'm typically busy...
Yep, legally running 80 in an 80!
A few hundred miles later...
Made it - 600-odd miles, twelve hours. We're beat. Time to get dinner, and bed.

This was the storm we were riding into. Since it was dry, no measurable rain fell.
I didn't know this bit of Texas 'law'. Learn something every day!
Most people were pretty good about this...but there were a few - argh!

You are traveling by my house without letting me know when you'll be through? I have to work this morning and then golf in the afternoon. If you are stopping outside DFW, then that means we should plan breakfast at a Waffle House Saturday morning? Let me know.
ReplyDeleteI'll send email later today...next blog entry will have additional detail.
DeleteAwesome, Ken! I am eagerly looking forward to reading your entries. Keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteDidn't really recognize the amount of work this takes...we'll play a bit of catch-up now.
DeleteSo...
ReplyDeleteWhen you start to feel like crap, you care only about feeling better. A week and a half into our little trip, that's what happened. My blogging, and a lot of other things, kinda slowed to a crawl while I fought to get feeling better. Meanwhile, the trip did continue.
The blog entries have been cleaned up - and hopefully the pictures decide to stay linked to their entries. The struggles with that were ponderous!
