May 5, 2018 - Day 10
Our adventure continues today, and we head on to our next stop - family friends that live in the Chapel Hill, NC area.
Over the last couple of days, I'm telling my buddy 'you find us some good roads to take down there', and with a little help, a suitable route was chosen. Quickly, we took Interstate 95 to where we enjoyed a nice breakfast, including grits - yum! The breakfast was decent, but we should have considered Waffle House - iconic southern-based chain of greasy goodness.
From here, we topped off fuel, and enjoyed some of the back roads around the Virginia capitol city. Amazing that less than 15 miles from Richmond, you're returned to a different era. One where agriculture is king. Still seems to be around these parts.
Another top-off of fuel as we're close to the NC border. My buddy informs me that gas prices in the Tar Heel State are significantly higher than they are in Virginia. A retired work colleague of his lives in this area, so we'll tag along, meet him, then continue alone to NC. After enjoying a nice visit, I knew my ride to my next location wasn't nearly as long as his was going to be.
Update the address in Google Maps, hit the 'fastest route' and chase that.
At this point, I've been fighting some eye issues, probably due to allergies. Having only 60% or so of vision wasn't fun today, but I knew I'd be in good hands with our friends here.
The only photo I knew I wanted was this...
We've made it here, but I now have a pressing issue to solve - what's wrong with my eyeballs??
May 6, 2018 - Day 11
Another down-day; eyes are getting better with some help from our friends. I'm now off to enjoy some family time with them...
Actually, it's nice being able to resolve these issues - a combination of a nasty allergy season, and probably a bit of my buddy in Virginia's dog. Oh, well, a couple of days to clear this up - yet, the pollen here is as bad as it was in Virginia - gaaaah!
Two work-from-home parents, along with four kids and a fifth on the way. Congrats to them!
