May 2, 2018 - Day 7
5/17/2018 - I've edited the photos of this post at least three different times. I've taken the photos and placed them all into a Google Photos shared album, so they should be viewable...but I thought I did that already.
This trek continues today to Virginia - and a new motorcycle training instructor. Should I be worried that I may need to perform on a range? :D
For the next two 'legs' of this adventure, I'd planned in advance two ways to get there. In the event of rain, the Interstates, or at least good US Highways would be the 'safe' route. The preferred routing was the majority of the trip on smaller, two-laned highways; after all, this journey is about seeing the country.
As I pointed out to my wife, and an uncle of mine reiterated, if it's a flat spot, it's good real estate for building in these small communities along the Kanawha (and other) rivers in this state.
If there was ever a place that dad's side of the family came from, we'd been in the epicenter for the last couple of days.
Made our destination at the time we were supposed to get there by - now time for a little 'shoot-the-breeze' time!
May 3, 2018 - Day 8
This day actually worked out well for a down-day. After a week on the road, it's sometimes good to NOT have to ride. Since our friends were all working today, this worked into our plans perfectly.
We got a quick tour of the community of Fredricksburg, VA. More of that history stuff happened here and other places quite close by...both Revolutionary War as well as Civil War stuff.
We'd made some initial plans to do a day up in DC - even better, since we won't have to ride up there.
Well, we will ride up there - in the 15 passenger vanpool my buddy drives. 👍 He needs a couple of bodies to be able to drive in the High Occupancy lanes - sure, why not?
Having to get up so we can leave by 5:30am? Ouch!
The only problem I'm beginning to have - allergies! The OTC items don't seem to be cutting it right now...do I need to get something else??

One of my uncles actually popped in for his morning java fix while we were there...another couple of minutes to chat, then he was off on his daily life, and we were off as well.
I wanted to see the Green Bank Radio Observatory. The simple fact there's a quite large radius of radio silence is always a bonus. Unfortunately, a bit of a bust in what you could see from the parking lot; now I need to get the GPS to give me a path to get to Virginia.
I've been diligent in getting that sign as soon as I cross into a new state - I have a couple more to get on this trip as well...

| Springtime is slowly coming alive in the mountains of Virginia |
I gotta admit, a hidden gem of a road thru this region. I thoroughly enjoyed it, think my wife did to, but it was physically demanding thru here. We're also amazed at just how much history has taken places in this mountains and valleys, especially during that uncomfortable time when we as a country fought each other, the American Civil War.
