May 7, 2018 - Day 12
We're both having an enjoyable time visiting the family we've been with. There's one more evening here in Chapel Hill, then we begin the trek west.
So, we jumped into the car, and did a little exploring of the area. Picturesque region.
The NASCAR Hall of Fame is just a couple of hours west of here - and it's virtually on the way back to Oak Ridge, TN. We'll stop by and visit for a couple of hours.
My eyes are feeling better - one more day of treatment (hopefully) gets them mostly functional.
May 8, 2018 - Day 13
Another route chosen for avoiding the highway...and we still made respectable time into the Queen City of Charlotte, NC.
Thanks to my wife for getting a few pictures today:
The Hall of Fame was nice, about three hours of fun checking out a lot of racing history. My wife has the images on her camera, since mine? It was on the bike - d'oh!
I still was considering more twisty road riding on the way to Oak Ridge, but the ominous clouds in the sky made me stay on the freeway. I don't recall being on this piece of I-40, but to me, it sure seemed like they just widened an existing highway and made it Interstate.
Got to Oak Ridge, cleaned up and was picked up by our friends here and went to dinner with them.
My eyes are better, but I'm feeling like crap overall. Beautiful. 😟
May 9, 2018 - Day 14
I feel like crap - I'm not going anywhere. Ugh. I'm around some of the best roads to ride in the region, and I just want to make certain I can make three days of riding home.
My wife has made plans to join her friend and her grandchildren for a short outing. I think I've slept for another couple of hours today. An early morning Walmart walk snagged some meds to counteract the cough I've had for two days, and my wife had overnight.
I don't have a direct plan to head home yet. I'm gonna wake up, pack the bike and let Google Maps figure it out.
