48-in-10 Ride Day -1

I've got everything I think I'll need for the next ten days - or less...except around 250 gallons of fuel, a dozen (or so) gallons of water and/or sports drinks, sustenance of some sort...

...and time. A successful trip is making it home, safe and sound.  The goal is visiting all of the contiguous states (and D.C.) in less than ten days (240 hours), with satisfactory proof that I was there in each of them.  This proof is generally considered acceptable with a receipt that shows where I was, what I bought and the time and date that happened.

Simple, huh?  🤣

For day one, I know how much of a pain in the a** driving thru Las Vegas can be on a weekday during rush hour, so the planned departure time from here gets me to the north-side of Vegas before the crush of traffic hits.  From there, it's just another SaddleSore ride in the desert.  There may already be an issue with getting thru Vegas.  Day two takes me near, but not thru many major metropolitan areas.

The blog will now be a series of fairly short posts that could be composed by me sending an email directly to this blog.  It will be immediately posted, more for notes and comments than a complete story.  When time permits, I will consolidate these posts into something a bit more coherent.

For those that may be new to this, the link below is my Spotwalla page.  You can get to it here, or by using the menu bar along the top of the blog main screen:

Ken's 48 State 10 Day Ride!

For this ride, I've added my planned route to the Spotwalla map.  The tracking points generated by Spotwalla should be fairly close to the route shown on the map in blue.  There could be small deviations to the route, based on any number of events, but that's the plan.

I'm now checked-in to my room, after finding something to eat  I've gotten a nice long shower, and am now enjoy some AC - and soon I'll be getting some sleep.  I have found that a quality five or six hours of sleep is vital.

  1. Good luck Ken. Looks like you are well on your way now. Weather window looks good for the next couple of days. T0day will definitely be a hot ride; but should cool off once you make the turn on I90 tomorrow. Scott
