I was looking at this blank space on a wall I have in the room I use as an office...wondering if I could recollect all of the major highways either I've been on alone, or with my wife, since we got into motorcycling in 2007.So, I started with a state of Arizona map from the web - how convenient!
https://azdot.gov/docs/maps/state-highway-system.pdf
I printed it, then started highlighting...
Sharpie® took care of that. Circles and arrows and all of that...
Twenty minutes later:
Roughly 6100 miles of roads under the control of the state, per a listing I found from 2013. My estimate is we've actually (no joke!) been on over 90% of the paved highways available in this state. Now, this is taken from (faulty) memory, I'm sure...and I've erred on the side of caution
Interesting tid-bit: Arizona still has ~50 miles of unpaved state highways in the inventory.
Obviously, this isn't counting many of the local roads in the region, but there has to be a starting point. California would be the next one to do that would be a challenge.
Update 1/31/19 (PM): According to my lovely bride, we have been on AZ-95 north from Quartzsite to Parker, AZ. I really need to fix that map...
Update 6/24/19 (PM): I did AZ-95 north from Quartzsite to Parker, AZ on my in-state Saddlesore 1000 ride. On our train-chasing trip earlier this year, we did ride on AZ-77 toward Holbrook, AZ. A few more miles are covered.
